How much mulch do I need?
When it comes to mulching, a big question is always how much you need. Below we've outlined a couple of simple steps to help you answer that very question.
- With a measuring tape, measure how many feet long the landscape bed will be, and then measure how many feet wide. Multiplying these two numbers will give you the square foot area of your landscape bed.
- Decide how thick you want your mulch to be. 2" is average. If you are just top dressing a previously mulched bed, you may wish to use as little as 1" of mulch. Below we've listed a pair of charts to help you calculate how much you need.

A cubic yard will cover:
